Blood tests for children

11 and over

Basildon Hospital and Orsett Hospital 11 to 17 years old. Please call 01268 524900 ext 8167 to book.

Under 11

Basildon Hospital children’s outpatient department (near the maternity unit).

Blood Test Centres

Brentwood Community Hospital, Crescent, Brentwood, Essex, CM15 8DR

Brentwood Community Hospital offers blood tests. You can book a blood test by clicking on the ‘book online’ button below. You then click book appointment and will then be shown the dates and times available. On your first booking you will be asked to register, and will receive an automatic email confirmation of your slot.

Monday to Friday: 8.00am to 4.00pm.

There are some appointments available to book online for Tuesday to Thursday. Book online.

If you are unable to access the online booking system, you can book a blood test by calling 0300 300 1715.

Basildon University Hospital, Nethermayne, Basildon, Essex, SS16 5NL

Basildon Hospital offers blood tests by pre-booked appointment only - there is no walk-in facility.

You can book a blood test by clicking on the ‘book online’ button below. You will be asked to specify your blood test requirements (such as glucose tolerance test, INR/Warfarin), and will then be shown the dates and times available. On your first booking you will be asked to register, and will receive an automatic email confirmation.

Monday to Friday: 7.20am to 3.40pm

Orsett Hospital, Rowley Road, Orsett, Essex, RM16 3EU

Orsett Hospital offers blood tests. You can book a blood test by clicking on the ‘book online’ button below. You will be asked to specify your blood test requirements (such as glucose tolerance test, INR/Warfarin), and will then be shown the dates and times available. On your first booking you will be asked to register, and will receive an automatic email confirmation.

Monday to Thursday: 7.10am to 6.40pm
Friday: 7.10am to 10.40am
Saturday: 7.10am to 10.40am

There is some limited walk-in service availability at Orsett Hospital.

St Andrew's Centre, Billericay, CM12 0BH

St Andrew's Centre, Billericay offers blood tests. You can book a blood test by clicking on the ‘book online’ button below. You will be asked to specify your blood test requirements (such as glucose tolerance test, INR/Warfarin), and will then be shown the dates and times available. On your first booking you will be asked to register, and will receive an automatic email confirmation.

Monday: 7.00am to 4.40pm
Tuesday: 7.00am to 4.40pm
Wednesday: 7.00am to 4.40pm
Thursday: 7.00am to 3.45pm
Friday: 7.00am to 4.40pm

Outreach Clinics

Please be aware that blood tests at outreach clinics are for people aged 16 years and over.

Stifford Clays Health Centre

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 9.00am to 9.30am (Maximum 20 Patients – Walk-in)

Tilbury Health Centre

Monday: 9.00am to 10.00am (Maximum 20 Patients – Walk-in)
Thursday: 10.00am to 11.00am (Maximum 40 Patients – Walk-in)

Wickford - St Mary’s Church Hall, Church End Lane, SS11 7JQ.

Monday: 7.45am to 3.00pm
Tuesday: 12.00am to 3.40pm
Thursday: 8.10am to 3.40pm

Additional information

Fasting patients

Patients who have been requested to have a fasting blood test should not eat or drink anything, other than plain water, for 10 hours before attending for their blood test unless advised otherwise by their clinician.

Specialised tests

Some specialised tests can only be undertaken at the main phlebotomy clinic at Basildon University Hospital. Your doctor should advise you of this, but if in doubt please contact Phlebotomy Reception at Basildon University Hospital for advice.
